  • United States Government, White House: received certificate of appreciation from the White House for Flamenco rendition of “America the Beautiful” recorded for a compilation CD titled, Spirit of the American Voice following the 9/11 tragedy in collaboration with Ruben Romero; ( Albuquerque, NM, Dec. 2001).
  • Wisconsin Public Library: “Highly Recognized Performance Entertainer”: honored for multi-cultural summer performance series; (State of Wisconsin Public Library Musical Cultural Series, 1997 – 2000).
  • “Best Orchestral Adaptation & Original Score” for chamber orchestra in the multicultural version of The Wizard of Oz ( Modjeska Theatre – Milwaukee, WI, 1998).
  • Octavio Paz Symposium: “Most Original Latino Chamber Music Score Award”; (Milwaukee, WI, 1997).
  • Milwaukee Public Theatre Productions: “Award of Excellence”; honored for being ‘instrumental’ in theatrical production as musical director and musician; (Milwaukee, WI, 1996-1997).

Awards & Recognition in Life

Although Mito was not producing music at this time, he excelled at other educational, cultural and social justice commitments.

  • Ronald E. McNair Academic Achievement Program: the first Latino music student in the country to be accepted to and successfully complete this prestigious post-baccalaureate academic program.(Milwaukee, WI 1996).
  • College of Letters and Science, Center for Latin America: received a competitive stipend for the position of “Undergraduate Project Assistant” (Milwaukee, WI 1996).
  • At-Risk Programs in Chicago Public Schools: “Instrumental Assistance in Effective Educational Reform”: honored for contributions to research and revamping of the public At-Risk school system in Chicago (Chicago, IL 1995).
  • Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Committee: “Maintaining High Academic Standards” (U. W.- Milwaukee, 1994 & 1995).
  • Search and Screen Review Committee for Dean of Fine Arts: selected out of forty applicants to serve as the only undergraduate student representative on this committee (U. W.- Milwaukee, WI 1994).
  • National Hispanic Scholarship Fund: honored for contribution, assistance and lectures in the task force implementing “A New Paradigm for Basic Education” (Milwaukee, WI 1994).
  • Recognition for being “Instrumental in Latino Awareness” – Changing the name of Milwaukee’s 16th Street to Cesar Chavez Blvd. (Milwaukee, WI, 1993).  This happened after an extensive 2 year attempt to change the name of South Division High School to Cesar Chavez Sr High.  Mito wishes to recognize and commend all of the pertinent players in the plight.
